Larry Arnold came to Crestmont in 2017 with decades of experience in preaching and professional public speaking. In addition to teaching Bible and speech to our secondary students, he also is the teaching minister for North Central Fellowship in San Antonio. He’s been married to Maureen since 1980, and together they have 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
Maureen Arnold has been a disciple of Jesus Christ since 1966. The privilege of helping parents live out Deuteronomy 6:5-9 has motivated her to teach history at Crestmont since 2010. Her credentials include a BSEd from Abilene Christian University and 20 years of homeschooling. She's been married to Larry since 1980, and together they enjoy their 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
JoAnne Burch graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, but was certified through eighth grade and added an endorsement in Biology. She taught for twenty years in public education, did a stint at a museum (outreach teacher) and state aquarium (specialty education) in Chattanooga, TN, and now has taught in San Antonio, first in a Christian home school cooperative and then (starting in 2019) at Crestmont. Her FIVE children are all grown now and she has eleven grandchildren! Mrs. Burch is often heard quoting Colossians 3:23 "And whatsoever you do, do heartily, as unto the Lord ..." She loves Crestmont, because of the prayerful undergirding she feels regularly ... and her "WONDERFUL students!”
Andreya Huff graduated from Howard Payne University in 2008 with a degree in Practical Theology and a Minor in History. After graduating, she taught history for grades 3-11. In 2013 Mrs. Huff came to Crestmont where she taught 2nd grade for three years. She became the Kindergarten teacher in 2017 and in May of 2019, she was selected to serve as Academic Lead for grades K-2. Mrs. Huff has a heart for “littles” and desires to teach them to love Jesus and love learning. Her classroom verse is Colossians 3:23. "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for man." Mrs. Huff has been married to Ben since 2006, and they have two daughters, Rebekah and Mikaelah. “Crestmont is more than a school. It is a family. The people who make up Crestmont, both the staff and the families, have been true friends and a great support over the years.”
Mrs. Johnson hails from Shelbyville, IL, but has lived all over the world with her family; her husband is a civil engineer in the Air Force and she has two amazing daughters. Both Johnson girls attend Crestmont and have loved every minute of it! Mrs. Johnson graduated from Truman State University with a degree in English. She has been teaching at Crestmont for four years (with a small two-year break in Maryland courtesy of the Air Force!); she has found her home in teaching elementary school and LOVES every minute of helping her students learn in a fun and kind environment. Mrs. Johnson's favorite Bible verse is Micah 6:8.
MS ENGLISH, DRAMA
Gwen Kandt has been a part of the Crestmont family since 2013 -- first as a parent, then as an English and Drama teacher, and now also as the Middle School Academic Lead Teacher. She has taught in homeschool, public school, and private school for over a quarter of a century now. She also teaches, writes, and directs for a Christian youth theater in San Antonio. She loves the flexibility and opportunities the University Model offers . . . but even more, she loves the wonderful family that she and her daughters (now college students) have come to be a part of at Crestmont.
Cassidy Kennell became a disciple of Jesus in 2006 and has since been diving deeper into God in all his magnificence. As of 2020, she was given the privilege of sharing her love of Jesus with Crestmont students as their art teacher. Currently enrolled in UTSA as an English major Cassidy hopes to one day fulfill her dreams of being a Librarian. Today, she loves using her art skills and passions to teach and watch her amazing students use their creative abilities.
FIRST GRADE TEACHER
"From the moment I stepped foot on campus, I knew this was where I belonged. The atmosphere is full of love, laughter and the Love for Jesus. I am blessed that I can share my two passions, The Love of Jesus and teaching littles to love learning.If I can have even a small part of helping instill both into their little hearts, my Tuesdays and Thursdays are made!” Lori graduated with a BS in Ed from Illinois State University in 1993. Before children, Mrs. Kirl taught 2nd and 3rd grade looping. She and her husband Kyle, married almost 30 years, have two grown daughters. After they had grown, she came back to her love of teaching and has been a first grade teacher for 5 years now. Lori's favorite bible verse is Psalm 91. It is a warrior psalm; I gain all my strength from Jesus who guides me every day.
AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE, CHEMISTRY, CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK COACH
Shantel Leininger studied athletic training and deaf education at the University of Arizona and Speech and Biology at Texas Christian University. Growing up she was a very competitive gymnast and during college she ran track and was also a diver. She has been a high school science teacher, PE teacher, and also a high school coach. She is married to Ryan and has four daughters. They try to live their lives with passion with everything they do. Mrs. Leininger loves the atmosphere at Crestmont. The students, families, and faculty are all genuine and true friends. She prays her passion for Jesus will be shown in the classroom and on the field.
Alan Madera is a retired military Chaplain, having spent time in both the Air Force and Army. In addition to being the MS Bible teacher, he is the Executive Minister for North Central Fellowship in San Antonio. Alan received a Bachelor’s Degree in Bible from Harding University and a Master’s of Divinity from Harding School of Theology. He also completed an educational degree from Univ. of Maryland Baltimore County and was in the middle of his student teaching, when he was called to active duty with the Army and sent to Hungary during the conflict in Bosnia. While deployed to Hungary, Alan met his future wife, Amanda, who was also in the Army at the time. After Alan’s tour of duty in Hungary, he finished his student teaching requirement, but changed his vocational plans. He and Amanda married in 1998 and Alan became an Air Force Chaplain until he retired in 2013. Alan and Amanda have two children, Abby is a junior at San Antonio Christian School and Eli is in 8th grade at Buckner Fanning Christian School.
Courtney Oliver graduated from Texas A&M in 2002 with a BA in History. She and her husband Matthew, both natives of Texas, have spent the last 20 years moving from coast to coast and overseas courtesy of the Air Force. Along the way, they had three kids join their adventure. The Olivers joined the Crestmont family in 2017. She and her husband have been serving and teaching in various ministries over the years and have spent the last five years teaching in the Wellspring School of Ministry based out of Charleston, South Carolina. Courtney is a lover of all things historical and is looking forward to teaching and telling stories about our nation's unique history. Her favorite thing about Crestmont is how faith and education are blended together to grow the whole child, mind, body and spirit.
Barbara (Barbie) Parkinson studied at San Antonio College and has had 6 yrs of coaching volleyball at at previous school. She also was a substitute PE teacher for years. Barbie began teaching PE at Crestmont in 2019. What Mrs. Parkinson loves about Crestmont is the true faith of Jesus Christ that is demonstrated by all the faculty and staff on a daily basis. Mrs. Parkinson has a family of 5, police officer hubby, 2 daughters and a son, along with 3 dogs (one of them being a retired K-9 police dog.) Mrs. Parkinson's guiding Bible verse is Phillipians 4:13.
Lanikai Pittman graduated with a degree in Physical Education from San Diego State University. She had the privilege of teaching PE at Valley Christian School to K-8 for 5 years before moving to Texas and coming to Crestmont in 2017. She taught 1st grade here at Crestmont for 3 years before taking a year off to travel and spend time with family. She is a life long learner and enjoys traveling because it allows her a robust knowledge of history which she enjoys passing onto her students. She feels blessed to teach in an environment where she is able to tie all learning back to Jesus and delights in watching her students make those connections as well. She is happily married to her husband Clint and finds great joy in being Mom to her three boys Trevor, Dylan and Coulter.
Stephanie Rector graduated from Carson-Newman College in 2003 with a B.A. degree in Religious Studies and a minor in Applied Psychology, and the very marketable job skills of using the microfiche machine in the basement of the library and parenthetical citations. She met her husband, Matt, while serving in youth ministry in Chattanooga, TN. She has had many jobs over the years and it turns out she is well suited for the title of “wearer of many hats,” at Crestmont. You can find her in the office answering phones, applying bandages and ice packs, organizing events, making copies and acting as the librarian. Stephanie is passionate about family life and building others up.
MS BIBLE, PRECALCULUS, GEOMETRY, PHYSICS, TEST PREP
Mike Russell spent 30+ years in leadership positions in the private sector before being called to teach in 2017, when Mike became the Algebra teacher at Crestmont. Mike received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from UT-Austin in 1994, and in between classes he is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Mathematics from West Texas A&M University. Mike’s classroom motto is "Don't Be Afraid." “God tells us every day not to be afraid because He is with us every day, including in the classroom. The Holy Spirit is a great teacher.”
LATIN, GEOGRAPHY, WORLD HISTORY
Jennifer Schoenfeld has been a Crestmont Warrior momma for over 10 years and a Warrior teacher for over 5. She lives in Boerne with her husband, 3 Crestmont Warrior children, dogs, cats, chickens, and her beloved horses. She received her Master's Degree in Geography from Texas State University in 2004. Mrs. Schoenfeld is passionate about her faith and her life Bible verse is Micah 6:8. She loves being a Warrior momma and teacher because it is an incredible opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus to everybody everywhere and especially at Crestmont.
MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH AND TECHNOLOGY CLASSES
Regina Stamness completed her studies as a pharmaceutical technician in Austria and holds a Real Estate License in Texas. She homeschooled for 5 years and then began working at Crestmont in 2014. Mrs. Stamness served at His Hill Ranch Camp from 1999 - 2019. Her two children attended Crestmont. Seeing a student's face light up when grasping a new concept is the greatest reward for Mrs Stamness and a constant goal in her classes. Mrs. Stamness appreciates the faculty's prevalent mindset toward professional development and continued education.
ENGLISH III, SPANISH III, MUSIC - Elementary
Lee Towell is happy to be a part of the Crestmont family again this year. She is beginning her second year at Crestmont and her 42nd year of teaching. Lee has a Masters in music education and a secondary teaching degree in English. She has been married for 41 years and has 6 children ages 37- 17. Lee loves to incorporate scripture into the music she writes and Isaiah 61 is one of her favorite Bible passages.
Nancy Van Deest
As a graduate from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, Mrs. Van Deest did a significant amount of work in politics culminating in a job as a legislative aide to Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Thomas Foley. She then worked at a subsidiary of GE Capital negotiating government contracts. However, after the birth of her first child, she chose to be a stay-at-home mom. She and her husband are blessed to have three children. One is a graduate of Crestmont and one is a current student at Crestmont. Because all children are a gift from God, Mrs. Van Deest has a heartfelt desire to help children succeed despite any challenges they may face. One of her favorite books in the Bible is Esther. When she was approached to teach, God led her back to Esther verse 4:14. Given her passion and background in politics combined with her love for the Lord, she believes that God has her at CCPS “for such a time as this.”
FIFTH GRADE, LOGIC
Lisa Vasquez and her family joined the Crestmont family in 2013. She joined the elementary teaching team the following year and is now the lead elementary teacher. She and her husband, Steve, have two children enrolled in the school as well. Mrs. Vasquez studied at the University of Central Oklahoma and earned a degree in French. Her goal for herself and her students is to become lifetime learners. Psalm 25:5
ELEMENTARY TEACHERS' AID
Whitney was born and raised in Midland, TX. She graduated from Texas A&M in December of 2005 with a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and History. Whitney has been married to Michael since 2006, has three kiddos enrolled at Crestmont, and snuggles up to a Boston Terrier named Tater every day. The Wills family has been a part of the Boerne community and Crestmont since January of 2019, but this will be her sixth year co-teaching within the University Model. She loves the kiddos entering 3rd through 5th grade and she looks forward to forming new bonds and friendships with incoming families. The best part of being at Crestmont is the level of commitment and involvement Whitney gets to have with her own children and the other families at the school as everyone strives to make sure the students are receiving a high quality, personal, and Christ centered education. Exodus 14:14 has been her go to verse for years.
